Practice Rooms General use practice rooms in the Frohnmayer Music Building are available for reservation each Fall, Winter, and Spring Academic Terms for current Music graduate students and Music undergraduate majors. These students may reserve up to ten hours per week; reservations must be a minimum of one hour in length and may not exceed two hours daily. Undergraduate Music Minors and Non-Music UO students who are enrolled in an ensemble or lessons can use practice rooms only when they are not needed by music majors. Non-music UO students can request access to the practice rooms by emailing the SOMD Facilities Office and showing proof of registration in MUP lessons or an MUS ensemble for the current term. Practice Room reservations are accepted each term through an online request form and are processed based on priority/class standing. To reserve practice rooms, students must complete the online sign-up form when reservations are accepted each term. Room reservations will be processed and approved by the SOMD Scheduling Office, and students will receive their reservation details for the term in a confirmation email. Practice room schedules for the term remain in effect through Friday of week 10. Practice Room Facilities and Access Information Entry to the Frohnmayer Practice Room suites require an access code. Music Majors and Minors are provided this personalized access code at the beginning of the academic year. Non-music UO students may contact the Assistant to the Facilities Director and request an access code after showing proof of registration in MUP lessons or an MUS ensemble for the current term. Equipment may not be removed from practice rooms. Students must leave the practice room tidy, including wiping up any condensation puddles that may have accumulated after brass instrument practice sessions. For more information, see equipment/furniture. General use practice rooms are intended for single use. Students are not to use practice rooms for private teaching. It is against UO policy to give private lessons in the Music building if they are not part of the University curriculum or an established University program. Music Majors specializing in Piano, harp, organ, string bass, or percussion performance may be granted access to locked practice rooms specific for those instruments. For details, see key authorization. Practice Rooms Sign Ups Please use this link to submit your preferred practice room times. Once processed, you will receive a confirmation email from the front desk staff that includes your practice room reservation details for the current term, which will include weekdays, specific times reserved, and room locations. If you do not receive a confirmation email before Monday of Week 3, please contact SOMD Scheduling. Practice Room Policies If a reserved practice room is empty for 15 minutes after the scheduled posted time, it is available for general use. Teaching private lessons in practice rooms takes away valuable rehearsal time from your colleagues. In addition, it is against Oregon state law.
